Look out for David Braben's next dev diary where he will talk about why we created this video. The video also helped us develop other aspects of the game such as ship materials, GUI layout and special effects. The video contains the music created for the pitch by the winning composer Erasmus Talbot. Here is the capital ship battle video used as part of the composer selection process for Elite: Dangerous. Strangely though, I find myself waiting for some reviews before I decide on this one, it looks kinda weird graphically. X Rebirth is finally here, at least in Europe, few more days for America. X-Rebirth v Elite Dangerous I'm feeling slightly burned at spending 40 for a fancy Space Engine game and to illustrate just how lackluster the content and features in ED is I want to compare it to the infamous and still crappy X-Rebirth 3.0. If you want to have fun, and you don't mind biting the bugs to have fun (like if Elite doesn't have bugs), doing things like hacking ships and stations, capturing capital ships (this is great in enemy areas btw), so you can have a massive fleet to then blow stations away (at least to try), and get a nice and cozy feeling of accomplishment when you get a different capital ship for the first time (or everytime you survive an Arawn or Olmekron), build your own stations and manage the ships and stations like a RTS, go for X Rebirth. If you don't mind getting bored of a crazy retarded grind to buy a half ass ship that's been nerfed (according to the interweb folks, the Python), if you like fighting a ship for 3 minutes and then look at orbital lines for 3 hours, and having to actually look at the damn things to avoid overshooting a station and then having to go back, if you like procedural created astronomical bodies that will burn your memory away if you try to memorize them, then go for Elite: Dangerous! It has this and so much more! For anyone thinking of buying any of these games. Thanks in advance guys, I'm considering taking this sale to make the jump into X Rebirth but I decided it would be wiser to first probe the forums and get an idea of what to expect. Modern space sims in general have this problem from what I've seen, does X Rebirth do it better or is it rather more of the same in this matter?ģ) How is combat in X Rebirth? I found combat in E:D rather underwhelming (and somewhat repetitive), is combat in X Rebirth generally enjoyable? And is it rather fast-paced or slow-paced? Is this just my impression or is does the game effectively do it much better than E:D?Ģ) How is the gameplay variety in X Rebirth? In E:D you pretty much have 5/6 activities that you can do, people normally sticking to half of those because they're either the most profitable or less boring. Now from what I've seen of X Rebirth (screenshots etc.) I got the idea that the universe actually has personality and each part of it has its different look and feel. This for me is the ultimate dealbreaker in any space sim. Backgrounds and stars will look the same, stations will look the same and ships being sold will be the same. You can be in 2 different systems half a galaxy away and everything will look exactly the same in both. I would like to ask those who own X Rebirth whether the game would have what I'm looking for in these topics.ġ) The biggest one is that the entire universe looked the same. I own E:D with the DLC and while it kept me entertained for a couple hours I ended up getting bored pretty fast and giving up everytime I went back to it because of a couple of aspects in the game. Yes i know that one has a campaign and the other is an online sandbox so they aren't exactly comparable, but looking at both simply as space sims I would like to ask a few questions as the latest X Rebirth sale caught my eye.
